About Disruption SA
Disruption SA is a real-time monitoring service for civil events in South Africa. We are not a news site. We are a status service — closer to weather forecasting or traffic monitoring — for protests, strikes, marches, road blockades and service-delivery shutdowns.
What we track
- Protests — demonstrations, pickets, sit-ins
- Strikes — industrial action, work stoppages, wage strikes
- Marches — political and civic marches, processions
- Blockades — road closures, taxi strikes, highway obstructions
- Rallies — party rallies, planned political gatherings
- Shutdowns — stayaways, regional or national service shutdowns
Who it's for
- Fleet operators and logistics companies routing trucks around blockades
- Tourism operators managing tour safety
- Insurance underwriters assessing real-time risk
- Embassies and corporate security teams
- Residents who want to know if their suburb is affected today
Where the data comes from
A mix of public union and party press releases, established South African news outlets, and (in development) crowdsourced reports from verified contributors. All sources are public; we don't scrape sites that prohibit it. See our methodology for the full pipeline.
POPIA compliance
We never store personal information of individuals. Event records contain only location, event type, organising body, and time — never names of private people. Public officials acting in their official capacity may be named.
